I was walking down the street the other day
Trying to distract myself
But then I see your face
Ooh wait that’s someone else

Trying to play it coy
Trying to make it disappear
But just like the battle of troy
There’s nothing subtle here

In my room there’s a king size space
Bigger than it used to be
If you want you can rent that place
Call me an amenity
Even if it’s in my dreams

Ooh you’re taking up a fraction of my mind
Ooooh every time I watch you serpentine

I’m trying
Not to think about you
No no no
Not to think about you
No no no

I’m trying
Not to give in to you
No no no
Not to give in to you

With my feelings on fire
Guess I’m a bad liar

I see how your attention builds
It’s like looking in a mirror
Your touch like a happy pill
But still all we do is fear

What could possibly happen next
Can we focus on the love
Paint my kiss across your chest
If you’re the art I’ll be the brush

And oh baby let’s make reality actuality a reality

  1. I am honestly telling you the real meaning of this video. From what I understand and know.

Ok this video is about Selena being in love with her teacher so she sees everyone look like her, like her mom, dad. It's like she can't get her out of her head. As in the lyrics. When you like someone and everywhere you go you see them because in your mind's eye you're thinking about them obsessively. That's what it's about. Her parents are concerned because they know. Her dad waves to get her attention to knock her from her dream. She follows him to see what he's doing with her the teacher. Because she's jealous. She can't admit her feelings to her parents either or to herself. I thought I would understand and know the meaning of this video from you guys. But I just figured it out. Hence, the reason they all look alike the mom, the daughter, the child, the teacher. That gave me the clue. But this is after several times I watched it. And it wasn't until I read the lyrics it made perfect sense I was right. When she says it's like looking at yourself in the mirror, that caught me.

Also, the girls look at her weird because she likes a girl teacher. If you can see this is set in an earlier time from the way everyone is dressed, especially Selena, her mom, and the coach. So I think it's because it's set in back then when this kind of love story would be weird. Also the reason why she can't admit it to herself, her parents, and even the teacher. But her parents might also be worried because the people in school know and they see her daughter as an outcast. So they don't know what to do about it. The mom is waiting for her to say something. Because it also damages their reputation. How do I know this? Because the dad waves at her hoping she'd respond back and not just gaze and gawk at her teacher.

And btw I don't think Selena made this video because she's gay, a lesbian, or bi. I think it was just a fun video of an idea she had that she wanted to try out. Not everyone who exposes or puts something in this category are actually gay or lesbian or trying to come out. At first I thought that, but the possibility seemed a little too far-fetched. That and it might be a hint about the video fetish which is about obsession.

I think this is the most weird and different video I've ever seen Selena do. Or anyone do. But I really like her trying new things and new ideas and concepts and putting her own in a different way in videos.

  2. This is high art. I don't say that casually; I went to one of the best art schools in the world. I'm not saying that to puff myself up; I'm only saying it to buttress my compliment to Ms. Gomez.
Sometimes people miss great art right under their noses b/c it's not advertising itself as highbrow,, but this video combined with the lyrics of this song is pure genius. Better than most of the fancy snob art I've seen, and that's no joke. I've seen Bernini, Donatello, Michelangelo, Raphael, Giorgione, Velasquez, Goya, Picasso, and a helluva lot more. This is just straight-up *good*.
Not as good as the people I just mentioned, but really good at what it's aiming to be. Amazing, really. This is no second fiddle to anyone… whoever she may be;)
